Novelist and dramatist Dorothy Dodds Baker was born in Missoula, Montana in 1907. She attended Whittier College and the University
of California, Los Angeles, where she graduated in 1929. While at UCLA she met the poet Howard Baker, whom she married in
1930 while the two were living in Paris. She later lived in Oakland, Calif., and earned her M.A. in 1934 from UCLA. She received
a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1942. She died in Terra Bella, California in 1968. Among her works are Young Man with a Horn (1938),
Trio (1943), Our Gifted Son (1948) and Cassandra at the Wedding (1962).
Poet, dramatist, novelist and literary critic, Howard Baker was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1905. He received his
M.A. in English at Stanford University in 1928. He also studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, and later taught English at the
University of California, Berkeley and Harvard University. Among his works are Orange Valley (1931), Letter from the Country
(1941) and Ode to the Sea (1954).
